Personal Bio: Laura Hurtado

My name is Laura Hurtado. I was born in Bisbee, Arizona, but I was raised in Douglas my entire life. My parents were both born and raised in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico and they came to the United States at a young age. Throughout the years, I have realized the importance of education for myself and also for future generations. Education has certainly opened many doors in my life, such as this one... being able to attend to HACU. A little background about myself regarding education, is that at the end of my senior year in high school I received a study grant at Cochise College which assisted me to further my education. I appreciated that scholarship so much because it is what has allowed me to achieve the first goals I set for myself. First, I earned my Associates degree within two years at Cochise College and then I successfully transferred the following school year to the University of Arizona South – Douglas with a transfer scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa. I have worked hard at my academics and have been very successful as a student. Now I am forward to graduating from the University of Arizona South – Douglas with a BA in Government and Public Service in December 2016. My next goal is to start my Master’s degree soon. I am extremely excited for this great opportunity of being able to attend to HACU. I know that this will be a lifetime experience that will keep on opening doors of opportunity for me in the future. I truly feel very honored!
